This briefing paper, compiled by Strom Thurmond Institute of Government
and Public Affairs and the South Carolina Center for Fathers and
Families, demonstrates the Center's efforts to increase the Self
Support Reserve (SSR) by working with senate judiciary committee
members and the South Carolina Department of Social Services to update
the child support guidelines in accordance with federal law. Current
proposed regulations increase the SSR from $500.00 to $748.00. These
proposed regulations have passed the Senate and are expected to pass
both legislative bodies in 2006.
