Kiki Dean graduates in a class of her own

Our own Kiki Dean earned her bachelor's degree in human resources -- with honors -- from Baker College a month ago. She bought a cap and gown, and was all ready to go walk across the stage and pick up her sheepskin.

But it didn't make sense to go all the way to Michigan when all her family is here, so we brought the graduation to her!

It was the most exclusive graduation of the year, as Kiki walked alone across the courtyard at 2711 Middleburg Drive and took her seat front and center to hear the inspiring graduation speech from the inimitable Ricky Barr, who called the attentive graduate "a wellspring of perseverance."

Then, she received her framed diploma from Jessica All, before hearing a touching address from her parents, who could not have been prouder.

Kiki's real-life family was there, as well as her work family from the Center, plus dignitaries from the Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina and other friends.

Through it all, Kiki beamed an even brighter smile than usual. And we joined her in that.

Congratulations, Kiki!
