SCCFF Awarded $26,000 Raskob Foundation Grant for Continued Health Services in Marion County, New Services in Florence County

The Center has been awarded a $26,535 grant from the Raskob Foundation for Catholic Activities. Beginning January 2018, the funds will be used for continuation of the Access to Healthcare initiative in Marion County and expansion of services to Florence County. Access to Healthcare is a comprehensive healthcare initiative of the South Carolina Center for Fathers and Families that provides healthcare and health education to low-income, non-custodial fathers.

A Father’s Place serves fathers in Marion County and Man 2 Man serves fathers living in Florence County. A high percentage of fathers enrolled in these programs suffer from multiple health problems, have poor eating habits and are without health insurance. These issues pose as barriers to employment and providing for their children. The Center works with the fatherhood programs to educate fathers on the importance of good health and how it is connected to responsible fatherhood. The health curriculum is offered twice per year and important health screenings are offered in the spring and fall.

The mission of the Raskob Foundation for Catholic Activities is to support domestic and international projects from institutions and organizations that identify with the Catholic Church.
