Center Hosts Series of Motivational Interviewing Technique Trainings

The Center hosted its third Motivational Interviewing Training in Florence for staff at A Father’s Place and Man 2 Man on February 12. Motivational Interviewing is a person-centered method for obtaining information from participants while building trust and confidence. Site managers, data quality managers, intervention specialists, outreach coordinators and employment opportunity developers across the state are learning how to build rapport and communicate effectively with program participants and with each other.
The training demonstrated methods for creating open-ended dialogue and ways to use positive affirmations to motivate others. “I can use this to keep participants uplifted. It can be difficult when they’re going through a lot and they can’t seem to find the light of day,” said Martha Pearson, intervention specialist at Upstate Fatherhood Coalition.
All fatherhood program centers will receive this valuable training, which concludes in March. Thanks to Presenter Alan Lyme with the Phoenix Center in Greenville for facilitating these trainings.
