A Father's Place Receives $25,000 Healthy Insights Grant

A Father's Place has received a $25,000 Healthy Insights grant from the South Carolina Association for Community Economic Development, an organization that strives to improve the quality of life for low-income families and communities. The grant supports the "Pathways to Health and Employment" project which is focused on improving health and employment readiness for fatherhood program participants residing in Marion County.

Nearly 40% of the population of Marion County is obese. Obesity leads to many health-related issues including hypertension, cancer, depression and general quality of life. For fathers, poor health can impact employability and how well they can provide financially and emotionally for their children.

For the next year, 75 program participants will receive health education, bi-annual health screenings, one-on-one consultations, flu shots and other health services. The participants will also take part in employment readiness boot camps.

This project aims to improve the health care of low-income fathers and provide access to health services, necessary prescription medication and an understanding of how good health and nutrition are critical to employment.

Representatives from SCACED presented A Father's Place staff with the $25,000 check on January 25th.
