Father Focus: David King
David King was living in Seattle, Washington when his estranged wife became pregnant and moved back to her hometown of Georgetown, South Carolina. David wanted to be involved in his child’s life, so he also moved to Georgetown, without family, friends or a job lined up. David came across contact information for A Father’s Place and enrolled in the fatherhood program. Being new to the area, David wanted to find employment and establish a support network. The goals he outlined in his One Man Plan were to complete the Employability Development Boot Camp and to establish legal visitation after he and his wife decided they would permanently separate. Through the tools he learned during one-on-one sessions with his intervention specialist, David was able to have an amicable divorce. He also received shared custody of his daughter. His relationship with his child’s mother improved and David was allowed to have more visitation than the established court order outlined. Using the skills he learned in Boot Camp, David was able to land a job in Information Technology. He hopes to continue being a supportive dad to his daughter. His next goal is to purchase a house. He is scheduled to graduate from the program on Dec. 1, 2017.
