Bassmaster Hite Anchors Reel Connection Campaign

The Center’s annual Father’s Day Appeal took on a new excitement this year with board member and professional angler Davy Hite hosting a once in a lifetime fishing trip for one father and child as part of the Reel Connection campaign to promote the importance of dads spending quality time with children.

Davy Hite is the 1999 Bassmaster Classic Champion, two-time Bassmaster Angler of the Year and, in 2016, he became cohost and analyst for “Bassmaster LIVE” and “The Bassmasters” television show on ESPN2. When not on the water or on the airwaves, he is husband to Natalie and father to sons Parker and Peyton.

Fishing has shaped Hite’s life, success and view of fatherhood.

“The time I got to spend with my dad fishing was great and probably one of the reasons I chose it as a career. But, over time, I realized it wasn’t so much about catching fish as catching up, sharing lives and listening,” said Hite.

More than 230 visitors to the Reel Connection campaign website entered the drawing. Bear Napier of Waterloo, SC was the lucky name randomly selected and announced on Father’s Day. The father-child team will join Davy in early fall for a day of fishing on Lake Murray.
